The Organization: The 500 Festival is a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating the spirit and legacy of the Indianapolis 500. To achieve our mission, we create fun and life-changing community events that create hype around the city of Indianapolis and state of Indiana in preparation for race weekend. After all, it’s the largest single-day sporting event in the world! Over half a million people are impacted by our events each May, and we love what we do.

The People: The 500 Festival staff is 18 deep and packed with talented, hard-working professionals who care about our city, our state, and what the Indy 500 means to its history and culture. An additional 11 interns join us for the spring semester, and another 7,000 volunteers help us make May a month-long celebration covered in Hoosier hospitality.

The Atmosphere: The office culture is a blend of professionalism and fun with varying personalities and skillsets. We take our jobs seriously, but at the end of the day, we’re the Festival! Whether you’re planning the nation’s premier half marathon, executing a flawless red carpet event, or producing one of the world’s largest parades, it’s hard work, but always fun and rewarding!

The ideal candidate for this position must be proactive with various details of assigned events. Academic training in sport management, recreation, meeting planning, hospitality, tourism, special events or a related field is recommended. This candidate should possess strong written and verbal communication skills with a desire to be a team player with exceptional organizational and computer skills.

The candidate must also be flexible and willing to gain hands on experience during the months of April and May for all of the 500 Festival events. This would include the ability to go above and beyond while gaining insight into some of Indiana’s largest events. All interns will learn about event set up, tear down and production of all 500 Festival events and programs.

Learning Objectives:

Coordination of the Mini-Marathon Expo and Kids’ Day

Assist Program and Event Coordinator in management and organization of Mini-Marathon Expo and Kids’ Day vendors

This position also requires analytical skills and the ability to produce independently in many different areas. The candidate will be involved in the customer service realm of most 500 Festival events, but the primary responsibility will be the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the IPL 500 Festival Parade. Business, marketing, communications, sport management or other related fields are preferred.

We are a full-service agency dedicated to professional baseball players. Our in-house staff provides a wide-array of services to our clients including contract negotiation and arbitration preparation, tax preparation and financial management, athlete marketing and digital branding, charitable event management and public relations, and more.  We are seeking interns to support our athlete marketing division and day-to-day client operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular research on the sports industry including athlete marketing trends, amateur and  professional baseball schedules and statistics, and daily sports news
  • Conduct research for regional marketing endorsement opportunities including team sponsors and local  businesses focused on the sports space
  • Make outbound sales phone calls (generate leads, follow-up, cold calls, etc)

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 8-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. The tour’s vision is to provide superb hospitality and make every event a memorable one. With play open to both males and females, nearly every junior golfer is eligible to participate on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Currently the HJGT is the largest junior golf tour in the United States hosting more 2-day nationally ranked events than any other tour.

In 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

Position Summary 
Interns will increase their skills by being actively involved with all aspects of video production and graphic design for the HJGT under the direct supervision and mentorship of a full time HJGT staff member.  This is  avery unique opportunity to build your portfolio and to get hands on real world experience. The internship will be based in Orlando, Florida and will require minimal travel. Our headquarters is located at Orange County National Golf Course in Winter Garden, FL. Normal marketing hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Interns will receive 2 days of free time per week. No other internship will better prepare you for a career in marketing with the hands on training that you will receive. The following information will help you gain an understanding of the HJGT internship.

Intern Assignments:

  • Create weekly social media videos
  • In charge of all graphic design for marketing material

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 8-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. The tour’s vision is to provide superb hospitality and make every event a memorable one. With play open to both males and females, nearly every junior golfer is eligible to participate on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Currently the HJGT is the largest junior golf tour in the United States hosting more 2-day nationally ranked events than any other tour.

In 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The HJGT is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Operations Intern.  Under the direct supervision and mentorship of HJGT Tournament Directors and Staff Members, Interns will learn how to operate golf tournaments through their active involvement with all aspects of tournament operations, from course setup to course breakdown. No more than 4 interns to 1 full time tournament director.

The internship will provide direct hands on training and require extensive travel every weekend across the country, including: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado, Missouri, Illinois, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, California, Arizona, New Jersey, and North Carolina.  When interns are not traveling, they will be provided Business Operations training at the HJGT Headquarters through hands on learning and development provided by the Senior Leadership team.  There are 6 operations teams across of the country. 2 of them live in full time housing which is in FL or GA while the other 4 teams are travel teams and they live in hotels during the duration of their program.  Travel teams spend 1 full week in each city they visit.

Operations Internship - Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (Orlando, FL)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inventory management at the Zero Gravity Main Office and Storage Facility which includes but is not limited to: maintaining, organizing, packing, and shipping tournament supplies
  • Perform pro-active assessments of inventory and placing orders with Director of operations as necessary to replenish supplies
  • Manages the physical set up of events with the goal of creating a true tournament atmosphere
  • Responsible for event clean-up & transportation of supplies back to the storage facility
  • Assists in weekend tournaments operations including tournament and site directing responsibilities
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by Managers

  • Recent graduate or current student of a 4-year college/university who has or is working towards a degree in Sport Management or a related field
